Dharamshala Tourism – About Dharamshala

Spread across varying altitudes from 1,250 to 2,850 meters in the Kangra Valley, Dharamshala gained global prominence when the 14th Dalai Lama established his exile residence here in 1960. The town splits into lower Dharamshala's administrative bustle and upper McLeod Ganj's Tibetan culture hub, where prayer flags flutter against Dhauladhar peaks, monasteries echo with chants, and Tibetan restaurants serve thukpa alongside Italian coffee. The Tibetan government-in-exile operates from here, creating a unique blend where Indian and Tibetan cultures merge seamlessly. Beyond its spiritual identity, Dharamshala offers trekking routes through deodar forests, cricket at the world's highest stadium, and insights into both Buddhist philosophy and Himachali traditions.

  • Home to His Holiness the Dalai Lama
  • Vibrant Tibetan culture and monasteries
  • Triund trek and Dhauladhar mountain views
  • World's highest cricket stadium at Dharamshala
  • Spiritual learning and meditation centers
